DELOS Summer School 2006
The DELOS Network of Excellence is pleased to announce its summer school programme on 'Digital Preservation in Digital Libraries: Emerging Approaches'. The DELOS Network of Excellence is a four-year project funded by the European Commission under the Sixth Framework Programme to synergize and foster technology for the next-generation of Digital Libraries (www.delos.info). The school is sponsored by:
- Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli (Milan)
- Fondazione Rinascimento Digitale (Florence)
Participation in the School will assist participants in understanding how to address digital preservation challenges in the context of the digital library. The workshop will provide a networking opportunity for participants to meet with other students and researchers, international experts, and practitioners across disciplinary and national boundaries.
The school will take place at Centro Studi "I Cappuccini", San Miniato (IT) during the week beginning 4 June 2006. We hope that the audience will be young researchers and professionals with an interest in the topic. Internationally established lecturers will each lead one half-day session and most will be available through the week for further discussion. The learning outcomes for the course as a whole appear at the bottom of this document.

Venue
The venue for the Summer School is a 15th century monastery set in the Tuscan Hills. The lecture rooms and breakout meeting facilities are world-class. Those who select accommodation onsite will find the accommodation is pleasant and the food rich in local flavour. San Miniato, a town with a history stretching back to at least the Etruscan period, is about 1.5 kilometres walk away across Tuscan hills dappled with olive trees and vines.
How to Get There
San Miniato is easily reached from Pisa or Florence. From either town take a train to Empoli Station and catch a bus or taxi from there to the Centro Studi "I Cappuccini", San Miniato.
