Digital Preservation Cluster (WP6)

Summer School 2005

The DELOS Summer School in Digital Preservation for Digital Libraries will help participants in understanding how to address digital preservation challenges in the context of the digital library. This summer school is run by the DELOS Digital Preservation Cluster, which is one of seven European-wide digital library research collaborations integrated to create the DELOS Network of Excellence. DELOS is a four-year project funded by the European Commission under the Sixth Framework Programme to synergize and foster technology for the next-generation of Digital Libraries (www.delos.info).

During this six-day summer school, internationally established lecturers will each lead half-day sessions and most will be available through the week for further discussion. The course aims to develop in participants an appreciation of the issues surrounding digital preservation within the context of digital library development and management and to develop their grasp of the core research in the area of digital curation and preservation. Participants should leave with a coherent and practical understanding of activities surrounding digital preservation and, in particular, a developed understanding of selection and appraisal, workflow modelling, metadata definition, ingest process management, and a working knowledge of the issues surrounding audit and certification of digital repositories and the techniques and practices that underlie digital curation.

This summer school is run by the DELOS Digital Preservation Cluster with the support of the Digital Curation Centre (DCC) of the United Kingdom, and ERPANET on behalf of the DELOS Network of Excellence.
